When people hear the word “treasure” they no doubt conjure up mental images of gold and jewels.
- In the real world, I have never seen that kind of treasure, it exists only in movies and on television.
The real world can also yield treasure, but you have to know what to look for. I run a small business that scours the state for interesting auctions to find low-cost items I can turn around and sell for a profit. To me treasure comes in all shapes and sizes! A few weeks ago I was down in the southern end of the state, a few hours from home, and I found the biggest treasure yet. It was a shipping container filled to capacity with construction supplies, tools, and thousands of dollars worth of bar wire, forming wire, and double loop wire ties. I knew from experience that all the rebar rods and ironworker wire was worth several thousand dollars at the bare minimum. I had to act fast, so I haggled with the owner to get the best possible price for the rebar rods and all the bar wire and double loop ties. Since I would be paying cash, I felt I deserved a discount! After that came the hardest part of the transaction – finding a way to move and transport several tons worth of rebar and wire ties! I had to rent a semi truck, and pay for a crew of day laborers, just to get all the tie wire and rebar loaded, and it took all day! But it was a very profitable day.
