There is a pretty big difference between 304 plus 316 stainless steel.
304 stainless steel has a higher amount of chromium plus a lower amount of nickel.
316 stainless steel has a lower percentage of chromium plus a higher percentage of nickel. 316 steel also contains 2% of molybdenum. The addition of the molybdenum helps to protect against problems with chlorides enjoy salt plus sea water. There are applications when 316 stainless steel is a much better application.
